Webinar details

A substation ground grid study is an important part of designing safe and reliable electrical substations. Effective grounding helps protect personnel and equipment during fault conditions, but developing an appropriate ground grid requires engineers to consider soil characteristics, fault currents, grid geometry, and acceptable touch and step voltage limits.

This webinar is relevant to power systems engineers, electrical engineers, substation designers, consultants, and technical professionals involved in grounding and earthing system design. It will also benefit engineering students and professionals looking to develop a practical understanding of substation ground grid study methods and the use of ETAP for assessing grounding performance. Familiarity with electrical power systems will be useful, but detailed prior experience with ground grid modelling is not required.

  • The webinar will be recorded and will be sent out to registered attendees afterwards.
  • A certificate of attendance will be provided to attendees who request one near the end of the live webinar session.
  • Please note: the time stated on this event is in UTC. You will need to convert this to your own time zone.

Key takeaways from this webinar:

  • Learn how to develop two-layer soil models for substation grounding studies.
  • Understand how touch and step voltages are evaluated against IEEE Std 80 safety criteria.
  • Explore how ETAP can be used to model, analyse, and assess ground grid performance.
  • Learn practical techniques for optimising conductor spacing, ground rod placement, and material selection without compromising safety.
  • Date: Thursday 8th October 2026
  • Time: 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM UTC
  • Location: Online Session
